WHAT IS THE FUTURE OF THE INDIAN NATIONAL CONGRESS IN INDIA? CAN THEY COME BACK?
Mukesh Devrari
Congress is going through a
difficult phase. Every party must go through such phases. During the two terms
of UPA, many Congress leaders were indulged in large scale corruption scandals.
Right-wing forces fought the general election against the failures of Congress
party. People were frustrated as there was talk about inclusive growth and
development but it did not reach the larger population.
Nothing is irreversible in politics.
There is no allegation of corruption against Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi. There
is no corruption allegation against Priyanka Gandhi. His husband is under the
scanner for BJP for last few years. First of all the ruling party cannot make
charges of corruption against opposition party leaders and their family
members. If anyone of them is involved in corruption, they should be
immediately put into jail, but BJP knows that Gandhi family and their track
record is absolutely clean. Otherwise, BJP would have put them in jail long ago.
It must be noted that along with the centre, BJP is in power in 18 states.
Change in government is not a bad
thing. When a political party captures power, it uses power for the advancement
of society as well as for the advancement of political forces and actors who
played a key role in bringing the party to the power. It is obvious that the personal
interest of political actors cannot be set aside by the pragmatic leadership.
That is why it makes perfect sense to change the government in every few years. BJP
should lose power in Gujarat. It is important for the health of democracy and
development of Gujarat.
The last few of years of UPA rule
were described as policy paralysis phase. Corporate houses were looking for
economic reforms and wanted to change the status quo. In the last three years under
then BJP rule not much has changed. However, the share prices of almost all
companies trebled or quadrupled without any corresponding changes in the
fundamental prospects of the company.
This cannot go a long way. India needs
substantial changes. China generated more than 13 million jobs in the year 2016.
India generated only 1.3 million new jobs. Almost sixty million adults join the workforce every year in India. No party can remain in power on the
plank of cultural supremacy. It is perfectly fine for any political party to
promote its ideology, but that must not be done at the cost of democratic
principles inculcated by our society after a long struggle against
superstition, communalism and racism.
MNS leader in Maharashtra described
Prime Minister Narendra Modi as an event manager, who has failed to deliver. He
jumps from one event to another without fulfilling the promises made in the way.
People are also getting frustrated as the economy is growing at the slowest pace in this decade, exports are falling and widespread retrenchment is taking place
in IT and other sectors. Make in India campaign was expected to bring rapid
industrialization, but the campaign could never cross the government
advertisements.
People of this country gave a great
opportunity to BJP to work for the betterment of this nation. Unfortunately, the ruling party failed in using this opportunity to show that they are better than
Congress and they can be trusted for their economic outlook. Socially India is
in a terrible state, economically we are nowhere.
end.
