DEAR COURTS, POLICY MAKING IS NOT YOUR JOB

Image
Mukesh Devrari Courts must not cross constitutional boundaries? Courts and legislature, let me put it properly, judiciary and legislature have two different roles to play. Making policies for the nation and citizens is the task of the legislature. It is the job of our higher judiciary to check whether the laws, rules and executive orders are compatible with the provisions of the constitution. Policy formation is not the job of the judiciary. Two decisions recently highlighted this problematic trend. Supreme Court ordered that national anthem will be mandatory in Cinema Halls. If citizens do not stand up as a mark of respect, then they can be punished. They may face a jail term up to three years.  In a mature liberal democracy like India, this decision marks a low point in judicial history. In a film festival, participants watch many movies. They will have to stand every time the new movie starts. That’s the first thing. Second, these films what Sunny Leone and her films hav

SYRIAN CRISIS IS OUR COLLECTIVE FAILURE

Image
The scene of a car bomb attack that killed the governor of Aden, the southern port city of Aden, Yemen on Dec 6, 2015. Source - Namnewsnetwork Mukesh Devrari The Middle East crisis is the result of the arrogance of white or western world to impose forcibly itself on the third world. When George W. Bush was in power he destroyed Afghanistan and Iraq. The entire world watched helplessly how western powers led by the USA, aided by their propaganda machinery established the lies about WMDs (Weapons of Mass Destruction) as truth. It was claimed that the Iraqi dictator poses a threat to world peace. What an Irony? After the attack world community realized the scale of lies manufactured by George W. Bush. Americans opposed the war after the death of hundreds of US soldiers. Attack on Afghanistan was comparatively justified as it was a lawless nation run by religious warlords aided and abetted by Pakistan. When Obama came to power, he proved that he is the same and represents

WHO WILL WIN ELECTIONS IN UTTARAKHAND?

Image
Mukesh Devrari It is not a mystery. It is clear. All journalists and intellectuals, mostly upper caste, feel that BJP is destined to win. Congress is not even in a position to pose meaningful challenge to BJP in upcoming elections. Why self-declared experts believe that the election result is a foregone conclusion? Ten members of congress who rebelled against Harish Rawat and joined BJP are very powerful. In any case five or six of them will definitely win the elections. The popularity of Harak Singh Rawat, Vijay Bahuguna, Umesh Sharma, Kunwar Champion must not be underestimated. If BJP succeeded in disciplining internal unrest then these rebels will have easy road ahead. Apart from them BJP has five members of Lok Sabha from Uttarakhand. There are many other leaders who have considerable hold over the voters.  Tenure of Harish Rawat is marked by the internal unrest. He could not do much for the betterment of state, but mostly channelized his energies to sideline thos

TRUMP AND THE ESTABLISHMENT, IT’S A TIME FOR NEW TURN

Image
Mukesh Devrari It is amazing. Trump represents outsiders in US establishment. He is still being attacked for his views. It seems American security establishment was looking for the cut out President who toes the line of established policy regime. It is surprising that Trump is still being attacked for having views on certain issues which are not in sync with current policies. He is a President. He has every right to work for establishment of friendly relations with Russia. Surprisingly US press is quoting CIA officials and other intelligence agencies to prove that Russian hackers played a role in leaking information to wiki leaks about John Podesta, media head of Clinton campaign. First of all, this is non-sense. Even if it is true, it has played no role in swinging the election result. Clinton was a weak candidate. She represented the US brutality in Middle East. She stood for status quo. Democrats lost the election on very same day Bernie sanders was kicked out of Primar
