BJP OFFERED ONLY FALSE PROMISES

Mukesh Devrari

Promises of politicians are hollow. There are no exceptions. People believe in false promises amid despair. In the widespread hopeless environment propaganda works better. False promises during election campaigns by BJP went unnoticed. Modi wants all Bangladeshi Muslims to go back to Bangladesh as India is already overcrowded and they are snatching the opportunities and land from local population. His logic is as Bangladeshi Muslims can immigrate or seek asylum in any Muslim country. They must not come to India.

Now the BJP is in power on its own and Modi is a Prime Minister. If you think new dispensation is going to take any steps to make its poll promise of sending illegal Bangladeshis back home, then you are wrong. It is not going to happen but maybe during the next assembly election or general election BJP may raise this bogey of illegal Bangladeshi immigrants again.

Modi also observed in his subtle speeches during the poll campaign that Hindus who are facing prosecution in Bangladesh and Pakistan should be welcomed in India as it is their motherland. Will BJP government make it possible for Hindus to come to India from Pakistan on the pretext of visiting holy places and never return back? Nothing like this is going to happen. This religious bonhomie was the election effect and exists only to win some brownie points.

Modi also claimed article 370 will be removed and Kashmir will be fully merged with India. BJP may not like to believe but secessionist elements in Kashmir love right-wing national political parties. It helps them in indoctrinating Kashmiris that India is a Hindu majority country and inimical to the interests and well-being of Kashmiris as they are Muslims.

It is not a hidden fact that in the Kashmir valley Mosques regularly play the recorded messages of secessionist leaders and they describe Kashmir problem as Muslims beings targeted by Hindu India in the valley. If NDA ends article 370, it Pakistan and Kashmir secessionists will be delighted. It will give them an opportunity to advance their unscrupulous cause of merger of Kashmir valley with the Islamic Republic of Pakistan and beat India with a stick in public discourse. It will lead to deepening of hatred towards India in the Kashmir valley. So the Modi led BJP can never remove article 370, which gives special status to Kashmir.

Implementation of the uniform civil code is difficult, if not impossible. Ideally, it should be implemented as the Supreme Court has stated in its many observations. If Modi led NDA dared to implement it. There will be protest marches all around the country. Hindus in Muslim majority areas may feel suffocated and they may be forced to migrate to other areas. Then, retaliation may also happen in Hindu majority areas. So, in a twenty-first century when this nation should be thinking about how to pull millions of people out of extreme poverty and hunger. India will end up in useless internal unrest.

Modi will bring development and India will be industrialized and urbanized with breakneck speed in no time. Think realistically, what he can do in the short run. The answer is nothing. Proper development needs at least a decade or two of high growth rates, preferably a double-digit growth. One must not forget fifty per cent of people in India still defecate in open, basic infrastructure for development is missing. So, the new leader of new India must take one step at a time and focus on development, rather than on controversial issues.

end.
